Explorers (14-18)

Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Together, they make up the fourth section of the Scouts.

With the support, direction and guidance of 41st Leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers including The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both home and abroad; and adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and offshore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all.

At the 41st Globetrotters ESU, we are a mixed unit who are part of the Royal Forst District working under a Partnership Agreement with the 41st Epping Forest Scout Group (1st Loughton) who offer Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections.

Young Leaders

Explorer Scouts Young Leaders (ESYLs) are Explorer Scouts who volunteer alongside adult leaders in a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. A valuable asset to any leadership team, ESYLs play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table, and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.

Explorer Scout Law and Values and Promise

The Scout Promise for members who are atheist or of no faith background:

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best
to uphold our Scout values, to do my duty to The King,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

You can find the full set of Scout Promises for other faiths on the Scouts website here. You should also take time to read the Scout Law and values, which all members of the Scouting organisation are expected to uphold, and which can be found here.

Explorer Scouts Uniform and Badge Placement

Explorer Scouts wear a uniform during their weekly meetings and sometimes on trips away, depending on the destination and activity. This typically consists of a teal green shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, paired with a scarf, known as a necker. Uniforms can be purchased from our online shop — Scout Store — or from a local supplier, such as Forest Casuals on Loughton High Road. Here’s where to sew on those badges…
