Beavers – 6 to 8 years

Try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is only the start of your huge adventure. Our Forest Colony meets on Mondays from 5:45 to 7:00 in Loughton, Essex.

Is there a waiting list?

Lots of young people want to join Scouts and you might have to wait for a space to become available before you can start your journey. If a section has a waiting list, parents and other adults might want to think about what they could do to help out. Regardless of skillset or availability, there’s an opportunity for everyone to contribute.

Beaver Scout Law and Values and Promise

The Beaver Scout Promise for members who are atheist or of no faith background:

I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world.

You can find the full set of Scout Promises for other faiths on the Scouts website here. You should also take time to read the Scout Law and values, which all members of the Scouting organisation are expected to uphold, and which can be found here.

Beavers Uniform and Badge Placement

Beaver uniform consists of a blue sweatshirt with your badges neatly sewn on and a coloured scarf, or ‘necker,’ to represent the 41st Epping Forest Scout Group. There are plenty of optional accessories you may choose to wear, such as hats, hoodies, or navy blue trousers or shorts. Uniforms can be purchased from our online shop — Scout Store — or from a local supplier, such as Forest Casuals on Loughton High Road. Here’s where to sew on those badges…

How to roll your Scout scarf

  1. Lay your scarf (necker) flat on a clean surface, with the point facing away from you. Smooth it out so there are no folds. Then, using both hands, start rolling the scarf away from you — keep it nice and even and smooth as you go.

  2. Keep rolling until the point of the scarf is about the length of your hand-span (stretch your hand out like a starfish: where your thumb touches the roll, your little finger should reach the tip). Then put the scarf on and slide your woggle up over the rolled end to keep it neat.
