Loughton Day 2026: 54 Helpers, One Big Community Day
What a day. On Saturday 19 September, 41st Epping Forest Scouts returned to Loughton Day at Loughton Cricket Club, bringing together our young people, adult volunteers and helpers for one of our biggest community events of the year.
This year, our base was powered by 54 young people, volunteers and adult helpers, all giving their time to help us showcase what Scouting in Loughton is all about: fun, friendship, adventure, volunteering and being part of the community.
Across the day, we ran three main areas:
- đ„ Basecamp BBQ serving burgers and sausages
- đč Adventure Zone with free soft archery, soft axe throwing and marshmallow toasting
- â Adventure CafĂ© serving tea, coffee, iced coffee, cakes, fresh lemonade and crĂȘpes
Our young people got properly stuck in too, helping on the café and activity bases, supporting visitors and even heading out with the Loughton Wombles to litter pick and help keep the event clean and tidy. It was a good example of young people taking responsibility and making a positive contribution to their local community.
Meeting the Town Mayor
It was also great to welcome Loughton Town Mayor, Cllr Stephen Harriman, to our base during the day, where he met members of the 41st team and saw some of what our young people and volunteers were delivering. Cllr Harriman is serving as Loughton Town Mayor for 2026/27. Community events like this give our young people the chance to be visible locally, meet different people and show that Scouts is about far more than weekly meetings.

A huge thank you to Loughton Town Council for inviting us to take part and for organising another event bringing together local organisations, charities, businesses and community groups.
Thank you as well to Loughton Cricket Club for hosting the event, the Loughton Wombles for helping keep the site tidy, and everyone else involved in making the day happen. Loughton Day is exactly the kind of local event that shows how much is going on across our community.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came to see us, had a go at an activity, bought a burger, crĂȘpe, cake or drink, donated, or simply stopped for a chat.
The day was also an important Group fundraiser, helping us continue to keep Scouting affordable for local families and support activities, equipment, camps and trips for our young people.
